The time is fast approaching when majority of the people around the globe will be traveling to spend time with their families at different destinations. It is always an exciting feeling to embark on a journey be it to a strange or familiar land. Like most events in life, traveling involves preparation and the further the destination the more intense the preparation would entail. The decision itself to travel would mean spending a lot of money in the expenses incurred, but today, I will brief you on how to reduce these expenses, to make your holiday worthwhile. These safety measures are more practical when traveling long distances by road.
Carry Your Own Drinks
It is important for health and monetary reasons that you should pack enough water to serve you through the journey. It is essential for hygiene purposes because even as the bus stops at different inns for a break, you aren’t really sure the where the source of the water they will serve is from. It would be better to carry a variety of drinks so that you don’t get bored on just one type of a drink. You can jumble them up and include yoghurt, water, and natural juice or maybe wine to help you relax.
Carry Your Own Food
In regards to hygiene and saving on the amount of money to use while travelling, packed food is highly recommended. Once you prepare your own food you are guaranteed to be eating hygienic and well packed food that will reduce chances of you suffering from food poisoning.
Dress Adequately
This will definitely depend on your destination. Therefore, if it is a place that you aren’t familiar with, it is advisable for you to research the weather. Keep up on the weather forecast updates and choose your clothing attire based on that. If it is somewhere cold, you should stock up on woolen jumpers.
Book Midweek Travel Reservations
Try and get travel booking reservations during the week because those that run through the weekend are more expensive. Travel experts attribute this to the fact that most people tend to travel back home during the weekends as to try and be back by the beginning of the week. You, therefore, have better chances of getting good service during the week than at the weekend.
Research on Your Destination
Before you decide to travel to any location especially far away from home, it is advisable to research about your destinations. This will enable you to get a rough idea about where you want to go, and the logistics involved. The research will allow you to know the language the locals speak and the different sites in the country. You should be familiar with the geography, and just a bit of history will help you understand where you are traveling to. Research will expose the type of currency the locals use and their social behaviors.

I’ve been known to pack my own food and drinks for vacations, and it’s really helped me cut back on costs. I often just pack breakfasts and liquor because those are the two things that are generally the same everywhere, and save a lot of money.

Thanks for the link.
I agree that buying water and your food in a supermarket is one of the best things one can do to save money while travelling. Eating in restaurants or hotels will just drain you.
Agreed – Restaurants can be crazy expensive.
Thanks for these tips! I definitely agree with bringing your own food and water to the trip. Mindless beverage and snack purchases can get expensive, especially in a long vacation. It’s also better to be safe than sorry.
I’ve also found talking and asking the locals to be helpful in finding affordable yet good restaurants and places when traveling. They definitely know where to go if you’re after saving a few extra dollars. 😉
